Controversy blights UN net summit

What has been generalized in this article is the controversy of expanding Internet access around the world: a crucial summit takes place in Tunis. It reveals that bridges the gap of technology between rich and poor nations; however, the central problem is little funding. To elevate the technology and knowledge would evolve all countries into internationally-agreed development goals. How to balance the human rights and freedom of expression in a global information society ,additionally, is the central point of the summit. It is also difficult to practice in China, because the government is interested in
sheltering state security from criminal acts.

In the article, it is a well-developed policy to help poorer countries benefit from information and communication technologies. If there is abundant funding, it will open the floodgates of advantages: knowledge, communication, and freedom. The first advantage to leap on the stage is the knowledge: a key to unlocking the door of study. People can broaden their horizon to derive knowledge from the Internet, and the quality of study will follow hard on the heel of technology. In other words, the development of technology lays the foundation of information on the education.

Following the knowledge, furthermore, poorer countries can build the communication access in the globe, shrinking the gap between rich and poor nations. To cast the Internet society is necessary to expand a country’s reputation, although it requires lots of funding to support. Also, people will be saturated with various resources to pool their abilities, to advance professional skills, and to change different opinions.

The last advantage is freedom: nothing can be placed on the same parity. It means the country will open a new chapter to build a freedom of speech society. To arrive at the goal, however, there are still many problems such as criminal acts, human
rights, and management. If country is not prepared, it will cause a far-reaching impact to bruise themselves with freedom of speech.

In conclusion, to develop the technology all around the world is a huge task. It relates various elements to reach the goal. If there is enough funding, it will develop quickly.

The U.S. economy problem

Our group decided to research the current U.S. economic situation and what is the problem of U.S economy. We divided the parts like economic part and business part. Each member our group interviewed a specialist who studied about the U.S. economy. So, I interviewed business professor; his name is Dr. Rivers. Actually, economic problem is not his major, but he gave me the answer very clearly and simply. I asked about the general the U.S. situation and problem; also, I interviewed what is solution and future economy situation. He thought that the U.S. economy got smaller than before recently. Maybe it is just economy cycle effect. However, American tends to believe just the side of the politician who is their favorite person. Also, recent sub-prime and mortgage make economy get worse. Banks encouraged borrowing money to make contract with more people, but lately people who borrow money from bank cannot pay back, so it make other problems like housing problem; it is called ripple impact. High oil price is also one of major problem to make the current U.S. economy recession. Oil price affected other industry like steel industry, and it brings increasing commodities’ entire price. As mid 1970’s stagflation, economy recession was going seriously, but commodity’s price was going up. Like mid 1970 Vietnam War, gun and butter problem, at that time the U.S. government had to buy arms for war, also they had to buy butter to supply for people. It is like the current U.S. economic situation. Furthermore, the government makes more dollars to solve the current economy slump, but it just caused the value of the U.S. dollars to decrease like inflation. Therefore, it makes less manufacturing, and consumers can have less money after all. Some economists said that the U.S. economy will be better soon, but he think that economy is going to stay at least 2years, even though it will be good some day, and the new president can affect the U.S. economy and business. If the new president will be in democracy, they will prefer to push protecting old policies, and he thinks it will not be good for the U.S. economy. If Republicans get power, we have to see at least 2 years. So, in order to solve the U.S. economy problem they have to stop raising taxes and make the war go away, and the government making people spend more money can be good solution to solve the current U.S. economy problem.


After interviewing, I felt very good because actually we do not have many chances to ask those questions like economic problem. I have suffered to meet him because of weather, but I had very good time while interviewing. Even though he is not exactly an economist, he gave the answers very clearly. I interviewed for about 20 minutes, and he gave me extensive idea about the U.S. economy. Actually, economy is not my major, so some of what he said is hard to understand. However, I can understand main ideas, and his specific examples let me understand easily.

Interview U.S. Economy

I am in the group project U.S. economy. We decided to make interviews to people who know about the topic. I interview a person who was economist but now she is sociologist. Eventhough she is a sociologist, she could give me good information about it. I called her and asked if she have time for an interview. She did not have time until next week. She asked me how long it is the interview and i told her only around 10 minutes. We decide to make the interview by phone. I asked her about the U.S. economy right now, she told me that there is a recesion and the interest rates are increasing also she mentioned people who leave jobs and the education of American people it is not enought. She told me that there are many causes that produce the decrease in the U.S. economy. There are political, social and economic aspects that produce it. About Bush's plan she thinks that is a good idea but give the money for the people who really need it. She gave me some possible solutions for this problem such as change economy development, create new technology, develop better programs for high schools and make more jobs. She thinks that the U.S. economy still decreasing after Bush's precidency. About Carbondale economy she said that it is better than before but it has a depress. According with her the main source of economy in Carbondale are the University, the hospital and walmart.

This is a good project when we can interact with proffesional American people. We had the oportunity to know what do they think about the U.S. econmy that is a really good topic right now because all the problems around it. I was very surprised because of the disponibility of Marcy because eventhough she did not have time to meet me, she decided to do my interview by phone. It was challege to make an interview by phone because you cannot see gestures, mouth and many other things that help us to understand a second languaje. The interview was great because I could understand most of it. At the end of the interview she was surprised because the interview took only 7 minutes. We were very glad because we could understand each other.

UNITED STATES ECONOMY

Many core issues cause economic Problems in U.S. Some of these issues are bad lending standards, people in homes they cannot afford, energy, grocery and health care inflation businesses and consumers having to pay the bill for the excesses of the years past. The bush administration’s long-rumored economic stimulus plan is about give money to those who will spend it immediately; this will cause a demand in the economy creating jobs. This plan seems designed to make people spend more money instead of safe and pay down debt.

The economy in the U.S. is a very big and hard problem to resolve. The bush administration needs to find a better plan for this big problem. They can find good or better alternatives to help the U.S. economy and not to destroy it. People who are smart will use the money that bush administration is going to give to pay them bills, they will not buy more things and have more bills to pay in the future. This plan seems to be very easy to do but they need to know the consequences that it will cause. According with the article a big problem cannot be solving with a small solution.
